Aleksandar Vučić warns of global war and asserts Serbian independence
In a series of interviews via the "MD MEETS" podcast with Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić issued a stark warning that the world is at the "beginning of a much larger war" and that Europe is on the verge of a major conflict. He expressed skepticism regarding a swift resolution to the war in Ukraine, noting that he does not foresee a peace settlement in the near future.
Vučić detailed his vision for a shifting global order, identifying the United States and China as the two primary global powers. He suggested the European Union should strive to become a "third pillar," while Russia and India would remain significant regional or continental forces. He also noted that a new alliance between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia would further reshape global political divisions.
On domestic and regional matters, Vučić reaffirmed Serbia's commitment to its European Union accession path, stating the country will meet even additional conditions to prove its dedication despite political obstacles. He emphasized that Serbia maintains an independent foreign policy, asserting, "I will not serve anyone – not England, not Germany, not America, not Russia... I serve only Serbia." He also highlighted Serbia's economic progress, noting it accounts for 51 percent of the Western Balkans' GDP.
