Vučić criticized over BIA employment promises in Presevo Valley

Security expert Gurakuç Kuçi has criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić following a visit to the Presevo Valley. During the visit, Vučić promised a local citizen that they or their son would be contacted within 48 hours regarding potential employment within the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency (BIA).

Kuçi argues that this promise is not merely about employment but serves as a mechanism for Belgrade to establish political and institutional control over the Presevo Valley. He suggests that in autocratic regimes, intelligence services are often used as instruments of control and that recruitment can be driven by political interests rather than merit.

Kuçi further noted that Vučić’s rhetoric, including claims that Belgrade will protect Serbs from local Albanians, mirrors the political style used by former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević. The expert warns that such communication fosters ethnic tension by positioning Belgrade as a protector of the Serb community while ethnically polarizing local governance.
