Aleksandar Vučić announces Serbian elections and urges NATO action in Kosovo
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that early parliamentary elections in Serbia will likely be held on either October 18 or October 25, 2026. The exact date is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
In a separate diplomatic development, Vučić sent a formal letter to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressing deep concern regarding the security situation in Kosovo. Vučić urged KFOR to halt the gradual reduction of its presence on the main bridge over the Ibër River in Mitrovica, warning that such a move could lead to a confrontation with the Serbian population in northern Kosovo.
Vučić also accused the international community and the European Union of silence regarding what he described as the continuous persecution of Serbs in Kosovo. He cited over 800 ethnically motivated attacks against the Serbian community between 2021 and 2026 and emphasized that the failure to implement the 2013 Brussels Agreement, specifically the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, has exacerbated regional tensions.
