Vuk Vulević refuses extradition to Montenegro

Serbian authorities have not yet decided on the extradition of Berane native Vuk Vulević, who was arrested on 11 July in Belgrade. Montenegro’s Ministry of Justice submitted a formal request to Serbia’s Higher Court Special Department for Organized Crime, but the court has not ruled on whether the legal criteria for extradition are met.

Vulević faces charges in Montenegro for forming a criminal organization and for unauthorized production, possession and trafficking of illicit drugs, as well as a six‑month prison sentence that was altered by a higher court ruling. He has previously been linked, without prosecution, to the murder of newspaper editor Duško Jovanović. At the time of his arrest he possessed falsified documents and had fled Montenegro after a large police operation in July 2024 targeting a suspected cocaine‑smuggling network.

The Serbian court has not scheduled a hearing on the extradition request, and Montenegrin officials have not received a response to their appeal despite a year‑long wait.
