Vukovar-Srijem County declares natural disaster due to drought
The Prefect of Vukovar-Srijem County, Ivan Bosančić, has officially declared a state of natural disaster due to drought affecting the entire county. The drought, which occurred between June 1 and August 31, 2026, has caused significant material damage to agriculture across all cities and municipalities in the region, including Vukovar, Županja, and Gunja.
Field inspections by local commissions confirmed that prolonged lack of precipitation and extremely high temperatures caused major damage to various crops, most notably soybean, corn, sugar beet, sunflower, forage plants, vegetables, and fruit.
Farmers affected by the disaster are required to report their damages to their respective municipal or city commissions using the official PN form. Reports must be submitted within eight days of the declaration. In the municipality of Gunja, the deadline for submitting damage reports is September 15, 2026.
