Vulcănești–Chișinău electric line delayed by transformer repairs
The strategic Vulcănești–Chișinău electric line project, intended to bolster Moldova's energy security, remains unable to enter operation due to delays involving a critical transformer. While the high-voltage line and the Vulcănești station have been completed and received, the Chișinău electrical station is currently blocked.
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated that the delay is due to a transformer that was sent to Spain for repairs in June and has not yet been returned. Although initial expectations suggested a sooner resolution, the equipment may not return until late September or even October.
Minister Junghietu clarified that there are currently no signs of sabotage, though he has requested a clear analysis from the project consortium regarding both objective and subjective causes for the delays. The ministry is seeking information on the implementation process to ensure the project can be commissioned as soon as the essential component arrives.
