Vultr and AMD launch major AI supercluster in Chennai, India

Cloud infrastructure provider Vultr is expanding its partnership with AMD through the deployment of a new 20 MW supercluster in Chennai, India. This facility will utilize AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs to create one of the largest AMD Instinct deployments in the country.

The supercluster is designed to support high-demand AI workloads, including the training, fine-tuning, and high-throughput inference of large language models and foundation models. It aims to serve AI labs, startups, enterprises, and academic institutions.

According to Vultr CEO J. J. Kardwell, the local infrastructure is intended to help organizations meet specific data sovereignty, residency, and latency requirements. This Chennai deployment, alongside Vultr’s existing supercluster in Springfield, Ohio, represents two of the company’s largest AMD AI infrastructure deployments globally.
