Vuokatti ski jump in Finland scheduled for demolition

Finland is facing a significant decline in its ski jumping infrastructure as the HS100 normal hill in Vuokatti is scheduled for demolition within the next two years. Jyri Pelkonen, director of the Vuokatti Sport training center, confirmed that the facility is no longer in use and that plans for a new facility were previously stalled due to a lack of funding.

The demolition follows a similar trend in Kuopio, where the dismantling of a normal hill led to the cancellation of national championships. The deterioration of these facilities has impacted the sport's standing in the country, as seen when Vuokatti lost the hosting rights for the 2019 Junior World Ski Championships to Lahti following a negative technical assessment by FIS delegates.

While smaller hills in Vuokatti remain active for junior athletes, officials expressed concern regarding the future of ski jumping and Nordic combined in Finland due to the loss of these major training sites.
