Vusimuzi Matlala corruption case postponed for prosecution review
The corruption case involving Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and 15 co-accused has been postponed to 17 November 2026. The delay follows an order by National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi for a full review of the matter.
The proceedings center on allegations of fraud, corruption, and money laundering related to a R228 million South African Police Service (SAPS) health services contract awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Matlala.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) review panel requires additional time to assess the validity of the charges and the evidence. This assessment is intended to allow the NDPP to determine the appropriate legal course of action for the prosecution.
Previously, Matlala’s case had been separated from the main proceedings following a plea-and-sentence agreement that has since collapsed. Additionally, charges against suspended police commissioner Fannie Masemola were withdrawn on 22 September.
