VVD faces political pressure amid debates over cooperation
The VVD faces political challenges following a recent poll by Maurice de Hond, which placed the party at twelve seats—lower than JA21, PVV, and FVD, and marking its lowest liberal score in eighteen years. Under leader Dilan Yeşilgöz, the party has maintained a tradition of excluding cooperation with socialist-leaning groups, a stance rooted in the party's history since 1948.
However, successful cooperation between the VVD and left-leaning parties like PRO (formerly GroenLinks/PvdA) has been demonstrated at the provincial level in Overijssel. The Overijssel provincial government includes a coalition of BBB, VVD, GroenLinks, PvdA, and SGP. Local leaders Ton Serlie (VVD) and Lucas Brinkhuis (GroenLinks) suggest that through mutual communication and concessions, parties with different ideologies can govern effectively, contrasting with the current political deadlock in The Hague.
