VVD rejects coalition offer in Tiel

The VVD party in Tiel has declined an invitation to join a governing coalition consisting of PRO, CDA, and D66. The proposed coalition would have held 16 of the 27 council seats, with the VVD being offered two alderman positions.

In a press statement, the VVD indicated that their refusal is not based on the number of seats, but on a lack of trust and the need for a stable foundation for cooperation. The party cited damaged relationships, particularly with PRO, and criticized the formation process, stating that the largest party, PRO, should have taken the initiative following the elections. The VVD expressed a desire for a fresh start to address the political distrust that has characterized recent months.
