VVOG Harderwijk closes showers after legionella discovery

The showers at the VVOG Harderwijk football club have been closed following the discovery of legionella in the water installation. The bacteria, which can cause health issues such as fever, muscle pain, and pneumonia if inhaled via contaminated water droplets, was detected after players raised concerns.

Water company Vitens stated there is no danger to the surrounding area, as the contamination is limited to the internal installation. The club is currently treating the water system and thoroughly flushing the pipes. The showers will remain closed until it is determined that they can be used safely. Officials suggest that summer temperatures and a period of non-use may have contributed to the bacteria's growth.
