VVS Laxman's Zimbabwe T20I squad plan praised by former player Kaif
VVS Laxman, chief of India's Centre of Excellence, oversaw the white‑ball coaching staff for the three‑match T20I series in Harare, Zimbabwe, on 23, 25 and 27 July 2026. He selected a playing XI built around seven specialist batsmen and four specialist bowlers, deliberately avoiding an all‑rounder at the No. 8 slot.
Former India and RCB batter Mohammad Kaif praised the approach, saying “What VVS Laxman did brilliantly in Zimbabwe was backing a traditional combination: seven proper batsmen and four proper bowlers.” He highlighted the inclusion of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was named Player of the Series, and the use of bowler Ravi Bishnoi, who had been dropped in the England series.
Kaif also commented on captain Shubman Gill’s long‑term leadership potential and noted that the upcoming two‑match Test series in Sri Lanka, starting 15 August, will place pressure on Gautam Gambhir, who returns after resting during the Zimbabwe tour.
