Vy and locomotive union face potential strike in Norway

Mediation between the Norwegian Locomotive Drivers' Union (Norsk Lokomotivførerforbund) and the transport company Vy has resumed. If an agreement is not reached by the midnight deadline on Thursday, locomotive drivers may go on strike starting Friday morning.

The union is demanding greater predictability regarding working hours to protect employees' family lives, as well as equal pay for equal work following the merger of Vy and Flytoget. Union leader Rolf Ringdal stated that employees should not have to pay for the merger through wage discrepancies.

A strike would significantly impact rail traffic north of Eidsvoll, particularly the RE10 line between Drammen and Lillehammer. While the impact on Western Norway may be limited initially, Vy warned that service disruptions could change daily. Vy has clarified that they will not provide replacement buses, taxis, or flights for affected passengers.
