Vyšehrad film series returns for third installment amid Czech sequel skepticism

Production has begun on the third installment of the Vyšehrad film series, which creators describe as a return to the original buddy comedy roots and a focus on friendship. Producer Ctibor Pouba and co-director Jakub Štáfek noted that the new film aims to conclude the story, bringing back original characters like Lavi and Jarda. The production features several professional footballers in acting roles, including Patrik Berger and Jan Rajnoch.

In a broader context regarding the Czech film market, research from ResSolution Group indicates significant skepticism toward film sequels. Approximately 77% of Czech respondents believe sequels rarely match the quality of the original films, with 74% viewing them as marketing products rather than creative endeavors. While older generations remain critical, younger audiences (ages 15–34) show more openness to returning film brands, with 46% maintaining a positive attitude toward sequels.
