Vyjayanthimala: A look at the legendary actress and politician's life

Legendary Indian actress Vyjayanthimala has reached the age of 93. Born in Tamil Nadu on August 13, 1933, she began her cinematic career in Tamil films before making a significant impact in Bollywood.

Her filmography includes landmark roles in classics such as ‘Devdas’, where she played Chandramukhi, ‘Naya Daur’, ‘Sadhana’, ‘Madhumati’, and the blockbuster ‘Sangam’. Throughout her career, she worked alongside major stars including Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, and Dev Anand, earning multiple Filmfare Awards for her performances.

Beyond cinema, Vyjayanthimala transitioned into politics. She won the South Chennai Lok Sabha seat in 1984 representing the Congress party and later served as a Rajya Sabha member. After resigning from Congress in 1999 due to policy disagreements, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
