Vyronas police dismantle human smuggling ring using safehouses

Greek police have dismantled a criminal network involved in human smuggling and the distribution of forged documents. The operation targeted several locations in Vyronas and central Athens, resulting in the discovery of four apartments in a single building being used as ‘safehouses’ for undocumented migrants.

Authorities found 21 undocumented individuals, aged between 22 and 58, residing in these apartments. A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly managing these locations and facilitating the illegal movement of people.

Investigations revealed that the smuggling route involved individuals traveling by air from China to Albania, then crossing the Greek-Albanian border on foot. From there, they were transported by car or bus to the safehouses in Vyronas. The criminal group also allegedly provided forged passports and documents to facilitate travel from Greece to other European countries, such as Italy and Spain. Fees for these illegal transfers and resettlements reportedly ranged from 6,500 to 7,000 euros.
