Vysočina region in Czech Republic sees surge in swimming spot visitors

A tropical heat wave has drawn large numbers of people to the Vysočina region of the Czech Republic, where residents and tourists are seeking relief in local swimming pools, lakes and artificial beaches. Towns such as Humpolec, Bystřice nad Pernštejnem, Drahonín and Řečice report full pools, water slides, children's splash areas, paddle‑board rentals and sports courts.

The Otrokovice Štěrkoviště recreation area attracted especially high crowds, with packed beaches, a 50‑metre toboggan, free volleyball and other sport facilities, and numerous food stalls. Entrance fees range from 50 CZK for seniors, children and disabled visitors to 80 CZK for adults, with discounts after 16:00. The regional health authority has confirmed the water quality as suitable for swimming.
