Vytautas Magnus University restarts tender for major wooden building

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) has restarted the search for a contractor to build its new administrative building near Vievio, which is intended to be the largest wooden structure in Lithuania. The project involves a 5,060 square meter, three-story building and a 550 square meter visitor center, with wooden structures expected to comprise 55% of the volume.

The new tender process follows a legal dispute that led to the cancellation of the previous procurement attempt. In the initial 2025 competition, UAB Kalvastos statyba was ranked first, but the second-place bidder, UAB Infes, challenged the decision in court. Both the Kaunas District Court and the Lithuanian Court of Appeal ruled that the university's selection of Kalvastos statyba was unlawful.

VMU ultimately decided to terminate the original procurement process, citing potential misinterpretations regarding evaluation criteria related to the use of wooden structures. New contractor proposals are expected by September 16. The total investment amount remains undisclosed until the tender is finalized.
