vz. 98 81mm mortar technical specifications and history

The vz. 98 is an 81mm mortar produced by ZVS Holding a. s. in Dubnica nad Váhom. Development of the system began in 1993 at Konstrukta in Trenčín as part of an effort to align mortar systems with NATO standards. This research phase focused on verifying new designs and manufacturing technologies for the mortar's barrel and bearings.

Technical specifications for the vz. 98 include a manoeuvre weight of 64.5 kg and a maximum range of 6,700 meters when using 81-OF-M ammunition. The weapon features an elevation range of 40 to 85 degrees and a rate of fire of 15 rounds per minute. A prototype was built in 1995, with a total production run of 48 units.
