VZP ČR offers scholarships to doctors to improve regional healthcare access

The General Health Insurance Company (VZP ČR) has launched a scholarship program to improve healthcare accessibility in specific regions of the Czech Republic. Young doctors specializing in pediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, and general practice can apply for a one-time support payment of 480,000 CZK, scheduled for 2026.

To qualify, doctors must commit to working in a designated region for at least five years following the completion of their specialization. VZP aims to support up to 315 doctors through this initiative. Applications must be submitted by October 15.

In a separate development regarding medical practice structures, there is a push toward team-based practices to combat physician burnout and improve coverage. Experts suggest that within 10 to 15 years, most practices should operate in teams, which would allow for better flexibility for doctors working part-time or those balancing family responsibilities. This model is intended to facilitate the smooth transfer of practices from senior to junior doctors, preventing sudden patient shortages when physicians retire.
