W Barcelona completes renovation of rooms and suites
The W Barcelona, an iconic sail-shaped skyscraper in Barceloneta designed by architect Ricardo Bofill, has completed the renovation of its 400 guest rooms and 67 suites. Owned by the Qatari sovereign wealth fund Qatari Diar and managed by Marriott International, the project aims to modernize the five-star property to remain competitive against new luxury brands entering the city.
Designed by the Rockwell Group, the new interior design shifts away from the original avant-garde blues, turquoises, and metallics toward a more serene palette of whites, sands, ochres, and peaches, utilizing natural stone and light wood.
The renovation process, which began two years ago with the panoramic spaces on the 26th floor, is now moving into its final phase. Work on the hotel's common areas, including a 700-square-meter wellness area, is scheduled to begin this autumn and is expected to conclude by spring 2027.
