W4 Games secures $18 million in funding led by Tencent

W4 Games, a Dublin-based company providing enterprise tools and support for the open-source Godot Engine, has secured $18 million in a Series B funding round led by Tencent. Other participants in the round include OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and the family office of Shopify founder Tobias Lutke, bringing the company’s total funding to $33 million.

In addition to the investment, W4 Games has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with Tencent aimed at expanding the Godot ecosystem and driving adoption among studios and enterprises across Asia. The company plans to use the new capital to increase its international headcount by 50 percent and accelerate the development of its enterprise product line to meet growing demand from large-scale developers.

Founded in 2021 by Godot project leaders including Juan Linietsky and Rémi Verschelde, W4 Games operates as a for-profit entity separate from the non-profit Godot Foundation. While the foundation manages the MIT-licensed engine, W4 Games focuses on commercial services such as console export capabilities for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, as well as hosted multiplayer infrastructure via W4 Cloud.
