Wa East youth receive industrial tools under National Apprenticeship Programme

More than 90 apprentices and master craftspersons in the Wa East District have received industrial tools and training kits as part of the first phase of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) rollout. A total of 130 beneficiaries are enrolled in the program, which covers vocational areas including fashion design, garment making, hairdressing, cosmetology, welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs.

Master garment makers received heavy-duty industrial sewing and overlock machines to convert their private workshops into community training hubs. Apprentices in the garment sector were provided with 50 manual hand-sewing machines, while the hairdressing cohort received salon hair dryers and styling kits.

Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, Member of Parliament for Wa East, emphasized that vocational skills are essential to addressing the national unemployment crisis caused by a lack of practical training. He noted that the initiative fulfills a campaign pledge to support economic independence for informal sector workers. Additionally, authorities warned beneficiaries to be wary of criminal networks attempting to solicit fraudulent mobile money payments for equipment delivery, clarifying that all NAP tools are supplied free of charge.
