Wa Municipal Assembly commissions first City Guards

The Wa Municipal Assembly has commissioned its first batch of 17 City Guards to enforce sanitation regulations, maintain public order, and ensure compliance with local by-laws. The guards completed a one-week basic security and community protection course at the 10 Mechanised Battalion Barracks in Wa.

Following a screening of 25 prospective recruits, 17 participants successfully graduated. The training, provided by the 10 Mechanised Battalion, covered physical fitness, drill, first aid, patrols, vehicle checkpoints, unarmed combat, fire safety, crowd control, and arrest procedures. Emphasis was also placed on discipline, integrity, and respect for citizens’ rights.

Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana stated that the unit will work alongside authorized security agencies. The success of the guards will be measured by their impact on reducing unauthorized street trading, improving sanitation compliance in markets, and ensuring a cleaner, safer metropolis.
