Wa police arrest two suspects after suspected drug seizure

Two individuals are in police custody in the Upper West Region of Ghana following a joint operation by police and National Security operatives. The arrests occurred at the ESP bus station area in Wa on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after authorities seized substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The first suspect, identified by the popular name S. K., was intercepted shortly after arriving in Wa on a commercial bus from Kumasi. Security sources reported that immediately following his arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to contact individuals believed to be part of a drug distribution network to collect the consignment.

Upper West Regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Yiribaare confirmed the arrests and stated that the seized substances will undergo forensic analysis to determine their exact composition. He cautioned that it is premature to confirm the specific type of drug until laboratory results are available and noted that investigations are ongoing to identify any other individuals connected to the case.
