Waadhoeke municipality deploys 90 leaf bins for autumn
The municipality of Waadhoeke has deployed 90 leaf bins across various locations to manage autumn foliage. These bins are intended to collect leaves falling from municipal trees to prevent streets and sidewalks from becoming slippery.
Rather than being discarded, the collected leaves are used as a raw material to create a natural circular economy. The bins are emptied weekly, or twice a week in certain locations. Residents are advised to use these bins only for leaves from municipal trees and to avoid adding pruning waste, branches, or grass, as these materials can jam the processing machinery.
The placement of the bins was determined in collaboration with village interests, neighborhood councils, and district managers. Additionally, the bins are designed to be animal-friendly, ensuring that hedgehogs cannot become trapped inside.
