Waaree Energy Storage launches 5.15 GWh BESS plant in Gujarat, India

Waaree Energy Storage Solutions (Waaree ESS), a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Ltd, has started production at its battery‑energy‑storage‑system (BESS) container manufacturing facility in Rola, Gujarat. The plant’s annual output capacity has been raised to 5.15 GWh, exceeding the original 3.5 GWh target and marking the first step in the company’s 20 GWh manufacturing roadmap.

The facility is equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, including automated guided vehicles, intelligent material handling, automated assembly lines and advanced testing and quality‑assurance systems. Waaree plans to add lithium‑cell production (3.5 GWh) and battery‑pack manufacturing (5.15 GWh) later in the current financial year, creating a fully integrated Made‑in‑India energy‑storage ecosystem.

Sunil Rathi, director of Waaree ESS, said, “The commencement of our advanced BESS container manufacturing facility is an important step toward building a fully integrated energy storage ecosystem.” The new capacity is aimed at supporting India’s rapidly expanding solar and wind generation, improving grid stability, reducing renewable curtailment and limiting reliance on conventional peaking power plants. The company previously raised about 10 billion INR (≈ $111 million) to fund its expansion, with total investment projected at roughly 100 billion INR.
