Wadin Bay residents reimbursed for 2025 wildfire defense costs

Residents of Wadin Bay have received reimbursement for expenses incurred while defending their community against a wildfire in June 2025. During the nine-day incident, 22 local residents remained in the community to maintain fire lines and manage equipment while other residents evacuated.

The community spent approximately $39,000 on essential supplies, including fuel for pumps, food, repairs, replacement hoses, and the rental of a dozer to create cut lines. Representatives from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), including Minister Michael Weger and President Marlo Pritchard, visited Wadin Bay to deliver the reimbursement check.
