Wadith Manzur transferred to La Picota prison

Former congressman Wadith Manzur has been transferred to La Picota prison following an order to end preferential detention conditions. Manzur had previously been held at the National Police Carabineros Station in northern Bogotá.

The Supreme Court of Justice accused Manzur of improper bribery related to a corruption scandal involving the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD). The investigation focuses on events from the second half of 2023, during which legislators allegedly accepted bribes from Ministry of Finance officials. In exchange for influencing credit operations, it is alleged that the congressmen were promised the promotion of contracts and oversight works for UNGRD projects in the departments of Córdoba, Arauca, and Bolívar.
