Władysław Findysz ceremonies held in Nowy Żmigród

Religious ceremonies were held at the Sanctuary of Blessed Władysław Findysz in Nowy Żmigród to honor the priest, who was the first Pole beatified as a martyr of communist persecution.

The liturgy was presided over by Bishop Jan Wątroba, with participation from Bishop Krzysztof Chudzio and Bishop Kazimierz Górny. During the service, speakers highlighted Findysz’s life of faith, his commitment to the Second Vatican Council through the ‘Conciliar Act of Kindness,’ and his unwavering devotion despite the restrictions and surveillance imposed by the communist regime.

Recently, Pope Leo XIV referenced Findysz during a general audience, noting that August 23 marks the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism. The Pope emphasized that Findysz’s legacy serves as a reminder to build a ‘civilization of love’ by overcoming evil through good.
