Władysław Serafin sentenced to six years in prison for fraud

Władysław Serafin, a former PSL Member of Parliament and long-time president of the National Association of Farmers, Circles and Agricultural Organizations, has been sentenced to six years in prison. The court also imposed a 240,000 PLN fine and ordered him to pay 2.5 million PLN to the trustee of SKOK Wołomin.

The verdict, which is not yet final, follows charges involving credit fraud and money laundering. One component of the case involved Serafin obtaining 3.6 million PLN in loans using unreliable documentation regarding his income and property collateral. Additionally, the court found him involved in a mechanism where 3 million PLN in loans were granted to straw borrowers, with the funds being transferred to his account.

A more significant charge involved the laundering of approximately 20.9 million PLN. Investigators determined that between 2010 and 2014, funds derived from credit frauds against SKOK Wołomin were transferred to the company Telewizja Rolnicza (TVR), with which Serafin was associated. While Serafin claimed he was unaware of the criminal origin of the funds, the court found him guilty of the charges. His defense has filed an appeal.
