WAEC official recommends computer-based testing to curb malpractice

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has advocated for the implementation of strict computer-based testing (CBT) to combat examination malpractice. Timothy Manga, an official with the WAEC office in Makurdi, noted that allegations of "miracle centres"—locations where organized malpractice is facilitated to provide unauthorized assistance—are a growing concern for the credibility of educational certificates.

Manga described these centers as a threat to the education system, emphasizing that success should be determined by competence and preparation rather than the ability to access illicit help. While no official confirmation of such centers has been established in Benue State, officials stated they are monitoring the situation closely.

Educational professionals have suggested that establishing independent examination centers and utilizing technologies such as biometric verification and CCTV could help examination bodies maintain greater control over venues and personnel, reducing the influence of local schools over the testing process.
