WAEC Refutes False Notice of Police Deployment to 2026 WASSCE Sites

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has formally rejected a circulating letter that claimed the council had arranged for Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officers to be deployed to all examination centres for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In a statement, WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adesina said the document was fabricated, noting the fake letter was dated May 27, 2026 and bore a forged signature of Senior Deputy Registrar S. D. Kum. She emphasized, "The Management of the West African Examinations Council wishes to state categorically that the said letter is fake, as it did not emanate from the office of the Senior Deputy Registrar (Test Administration) or any other department within WAEC Nigeria." The council urged schools, parents and candidates to rely only on official WAEC communications and ignore the misinformation.

The false notice had claimed a nationwide deployment of security personnel would begin on June 1, 2026, causing concern among stakeholders about the conduct of the exams. WAEC clarified that no such directive has been issued.
