WAEC reports 56,000 registrations for 2026 private WASSCE
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that at least 56,000 candidates registered for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series. Suleiman Kum, Head of WAEC’s National Office, shared these figures during an inspection of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) English Language examination in Lagos.
Lagos State accounted for over 22,000 of these candidates. Kum noted that the implementation of CBT, which began in 2024, has been effective in reducing examination malpractice, increasing transparency, and strengthening the credibility of the testing process.
To maintain integrity, candidates undergo searches before entering examination halls to prevent the entry of unauthorized materials. Kum advised students to prepare by studying diligently, practicing with past questions, and reviewing chief examiners’ reports to understand common strengths and weaknesses.
