Wageningen asylum center provides refuge for Sierra Leonean man
Mohamed, a 28-year-old refugee from Sierra Leone, has found stability at an asylum seeker center in Wageningen, Netherlands, after a difficult year of relocation. Previously, he stayed in Ter Apel, Assen, and Epe.
Mohamed, a former teacher and musician, fled Sierra Leone due to his sexual orientation, as men facing same-sex relationships can face life imprisonment in his home country. He noted that while his time in Epe was marked by local protests against asylum seekers, his experience in Wageningen has been characterized by a welcoming and peaceful community.
