Wagner Moura Calls for Dialogue with the Right, Warns of Polarization Threat to Brazil's Democracy

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura said he is "tired of being hated" and urged a dialogue with right‑wingers, arguing that tolerance is a pillar of democracy. In an interview on the TV program “Conversa com Bial,” recorded in Athens, he said political facts are no longer shared, which hampers constructive debate and endangers democratic institutions.

Moura linked his remarks to the themes of his touring play “Um Julgamento” and recalled research he did for the 2024 film “Guerra Civil,” noting that deepening polarization can open space for authoritarian tendencies. He stressed that citizens must be able to intervene in public decisions, not just vote, and warned that the erosion of a common reality weakens democratic dialogue.
