Wagner Moura discusses Cannes absence and European stage success

Brazilian actor Wagner Moura has addressed his absence from the Cannes Film Festival during his Best Actor award win for ‘O Agente Secreto’. Moura explained that he was filming a scene for the Netflix production ‘A Última Casa’ at the time. The specific task involved filming close-ups of his hand collecting animal feces, a role he accepted despite the potential for award recognition because he felt it would be awkward to leave the set.

In addition to his film work, Moura is receiving critical attention in Europe for his stage performance in ‘Um julgamento — Depois do inimigo do povo’. Directed by Christiane Jatahy, the play is touring various festivals. A critic from the New York Times described the production as a ‘difficult but valuable experience,’ noting the emotional depth of Moura’s performance in this adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s work.
