Wagnerian opera performances in Rome and Berlin

In Rome, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia presented Richard Wagner’s ‘Siegfried’ at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. The production featured Clay Hilley as Siegfried, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke as Mime, and Michael Volle as The Wanderer, with Daniel Harding conducting the orchestra.

In Berlin, the Deutsche Oper staged a new production of Wagner’s ‘The Flying Dutchman’ directed by Milo Rau. The performance faced critical disappointment, particularly regarding lead singer Tomasz Konieczny, who appeared unwell and struggled with vocal delivery. During the performance, singer Derek Welton assisted with parts via a music stand. While Attilio Glaser received praise for his portrayal of Erik, other cast members, including Aušrinė Stundytė and Tareq Nazmi, received mixed to negative reviews.
