Wahdah Islamiyah Muktamar: 10,000 Al-Qur’an teachers inaugurated
During the V Muktamar of Wahdah Islamiyah held at Masjid Istiqlal in Jakarta, Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar inaugurated 10,000 Al-Qur’an teachers. These educators, who are members of Wahdah Islamiyah, will be deployed to various communities to combat Al-Qur’an illiteracy, a challenge the Minister noted affects approximately 60 percent of the Indonesian population.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon attended the event, describing the inauguration as a significant cultural milestone that reflects the strong and diverse expression of Islamic culture in Indonesia. The Muktamar, themed ‘Strengthening Unity and Collaboration Towards a Blessed Indonesia,’ also featured remarks from Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, who highlighted Indonesia’s recent achievement of rice self-sufficiency and its expanding role in regional food security and humanitarian aid.
Representatives from various government sectors and local leadership, including the Vice Mayor of Makassar, participated in the event, which emphasized the importance of collaboration between Islamic organizations and the government in fostering national character building and religious education.
