Waimarino Health Centre expansion begins in Raetihi

Construction has commenced on a $4.4 million expansion and refurbishment of the Waimarino Health Centre in Raetihi. The project aims to more than double the size of the current facility through a new 345sqm extension.

Health Minister Simeon Brown stated that the redevelopment will consolidate public, primary, and community services into a single, modern location to improve patient access. Associate Health Minister Matt Doocey noted the project is a significant step for the Ruapehu district, emphasizing the government's focus on supporting the one in five New Zealanders living in rural communities.

The project was supported by advocacy from the Ruapehu District Council and local MPs Suze Redmayne and Carl Bates. Construction is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027.
