Waitrose and Sainsbury's announce price cuts on grocery essentials
Major UK retailers are implementing various price reduction strategies for essential goods.
Waitrose has announced a £20 million investment to lower prices on more than 370 everyday own-brand products. These cuts, which average 11% and reach up to 37% on certain items, include staples such as bread, porridge oats, potatoes, and apples. This move brings the grocer's total investment in its New Lower Prices programme to over £180 million since 2023.
Sainsbury's is also offering discounts through its Nectar loyalty programme. As part of a series of September promotions, the supermarket is providing 50% discounts on various fresh produce items, including apples, pears, mangoes, and plums, for Nectar members.
