Wajima resident recovers mother's phone at landslide site

Two years after the heavy rains in the Oku-Noto region, Hitoshi Yonezawa (64) discovered a significant memento at the site of his former home in Wajima City. While visiting the site of the landslide that claimed the life of his mother, Tatsuko, Yonezawa found her mobile phone buried in the debris.

Yonezawa noted that he had used the phone to speak with his mother until shortly before her passing. The family, including his wife and young son, visited the site to pay their respects. As the family prepares to move from temporary housing to a new residence in Nanao City next spring, the recovery of the device provides a sense of closure.
