Wajo Regency launches PISOTA movement to improve waste management

The Wajo Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) has launched the PISOTA movement—an acronym for sorting, processing, and planting in yards—to address local waste management issues. During a socialization event in Sengkang, officials emphasized that waste management is a collective responsibility involving the government, security forces, and the business sector, rather than a burden solely for cleaning services.

DLH Head Andi Fakhrul Rijal Burhanuddin stated that waste must be managed at the source, including households, schools, markets, and offices, to reduce the volume sent to landfills. This initiative aligns with national goals for a clean and sustainable Indonesia, including the ‘Indonesia Zero Waste 2029’ target.

Furthermore, the program aims to support the improvement of the Cempalagi Landfill (TPA) by reducing the amount of waste entering the facility. The efforts are supported by Wajo Regency Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2022 regarding waste management.
