Wakatipu High School to receive new classrooms via government funding

The New Zealand Government is funding the construction of 12 new classrooms at Wakatipu High School to address rising demand for secondary education in Queenstown. Education Minister Erica Stanford and Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop announced the investment, which aims to provide permanent facilities rather than temporary measures.

The expansion will include a two-storey building featuring four specialist spaces for arts and food technology, alongside four general teaching spaces. An additional building will house four hard technology and automotive engineering classrooms. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027, with the new spaces expected to open by mid-2028.
