Wake Forest defeated Virginia 3-2 at Spry Stadium on September 19. After trailing by two goals at halftime, Virginia mounted a comeback in the second half with goals from Marco Dos Santos and AJ Smith to tie the match.

However, Wake Forest secured the victory with a penalty kick converted by Tate Lorentz with only 14 seconds remaining in the game. The late goal followed a deflection off a Virginia player's hand inside the penalty area.
