Wakefield police launch murder probe after man dies from dog bite

West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 55-year-old man in Wakefield. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon on a footpath along a disused railway line in the Calder Grove area, near Blacker Lane.

Reports indicate that an altercation took place between two men, during which the victim was bitten by a German Shepherd. The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition but passed away later that evening.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and for being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place. The dog has been seized by authorities.

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Cox has appealed for witnesses to come forward, specifically requesting that two women, one named Sophie, who stopped to assist the victim, contact the police to help clarify the circumstances of the event.
