Wakura Onsen facilities begin reconstruction and reopening after Noto earthquake

Tourism facilities in the Wakura Onsen area are undergoing reconstruction and reopening following the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Kagaya, a prominent ryokan that has been closed due to significant structural damage and seawater intrusion in its basement, held a ground-breaking ceremony for a new wing. The project involves demolishing the former Matsunobeki site to build a seven-story building featuring 33 ocean-view rooms. Designed by architect Kengo Kuma, the new facility aims to resume operations by the end of fiscal year 2028.

In a separate development, Kyoritsu Maintenance announced that Shirasagi-no-yu Noto Kaishu resumed operations on July 16. The facility, which had been closed long-term due to the earthquake, now features a photo exhibition in its lobby in collaboration with the ‘Reiwa 6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake Archive’ to document the disaster and the subsequent recovery process.
