Walcha community raises $27,000 for Nepal flood relief

Residents of Walcha, Australia, raised $27,650 to support relief efforts following devastating floods in Nepal. The fundraiser, organized by local publican Ganesh Sedhain, far exceeded its initial $10,000 goal.

More than 200 people attended the event at the Apsley Arms Hotel, which featured auctions and raffles supported by local businesses and community groups. Significant contributions included artwork from local artist Nicole Blake, valued at approximately $8,000.

Mr. Sedhain, who operates the Apsley Arms Hotel and Walcha Bar and Grill, initiated the appeal after floods struck his home district of Nuwakot. While his immediate family was safe, he reported that 11 friends died and over 60 acquaintances remained missing.
