Waldensian-Methodist Synod concludes with new leadership and LGBTQIA+ support
The annual Waldensian-Methodist Synod concluded in Torre Pellice, bringing together approximately 180 delegates from across Italy. During the five-day assembly, the churches addressed various social and theological themes, including peace, justice, disarmament, and the protection of vulnerable groups such as migrants, the elderly, and workers.
Key outcomes of the Synod included the appointment of Pastor William Jourdan as the new Moderator of the Tavola. Additionally, the Synod passed two acts concerning faith, gender, and sexuality, reinforcing the churches' commitment to addressing LGBTQIA+ issues and gender discrimination.
In a significant move, the Synod expressed support for EuroPride 2027, which is scheduled to take place in Turin from June 18 to 26, 2027. The assembly directed the Waldensian Tavola to establish a working group to facilitate communication and proposals regarding the event, framing the engagement as a manifestation of an “unconditional vocation of welcome” based on the belief that every human is created in the image of God.
